The Adobe Icons Project by RohitAwate The Adobe Icons Project by RohitAwate
Update 4: Fixed scaling and font issues. The icons should now appear as intended.

Update 3: Now this project covers 10 of the most popular open-source creative apps! Download now! :)
: The borders of the icons have been slimmed down.

I loved Adobe's icons for their Creative Cloud apps and wanted similar ones for GIMP and Inkscape. But after a long and fruitless search, I just decided to make them on my own. Looking at response for the first two icons, I have added 8 more creative apps to the project.

The icons are in SVG and in case you're not a Linux guru, I have included simple and detailed instructions (for Ubuntu) for replacing the current icons with these cool new ones!

Just as before, I am open to feedback. If you want different colors or different alphabets in the icons, just let me know here or via Twitter. (twitter.com/TheRohitAwate)

Disclaimer:
1.) I am not associated with Adobe in any way.
2.) SVG icons only work for Linux. If you want these for Windows (which uses the .ico format) or Mac (which uses the .icns format) you'll have to convert the SVG to the required format. There are a lot of articles out there that will help you do this.
3.) The bundled instructions were tested on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and should work for other versions as well as for derivatives of Ubuntu like Mint/Elementary.

on all, please do “path/object to path” - not everybody has Myriad Pro installed, or are planning to have

Wow that's an issue I was unaware of!
Does it show another font if you don't have Myriad?

Well, anyways, I'll fix it by tomorrow! 😁

I wonder what open source font is most like Myriad Pro. I've seen PT Sans suggested.

I haven't been able to find anything better than Myriad Pro. I think Adobe now uses a new but similar font called 'Adobe Clean' which is not available for users. So Myriad is the only option!

I'll check out PT Sans though.

More suggestions:

The border line for each seems significantly thicker than their Adobe counterparts. Again, this depends on your goals as the artist, I guess. You may know something I don't.

Could you do more? Like how about Scribus for InDesign? PiTiVi, Openshot, and/or Kdenlive for Premiere Pro? Ardour for Audition?

Love this project. Why hasn't someone done this sooner?

Thanks! I took up this project because no one else did it before.

About the border issue: When you apply the icons for the apps, the border won't look as thick as it appears in the header image you see here. I'll fix the header image in the next update.

About your suggestions: Yes, I am planning to expand this project further to cover all open-source creative apps. The next update will be a big one. You'll see it in a few days!

Thank you for your feedback! :)

and where is FontForge? ;) (a good part of the typefaces available on Google Webfonts were made with it!)

Related question, but I'm looking for how to strip away the Launcher glass icon overlays that come in a vanilla ubuntu install. Can you point me int he right direction please?

Actually, there's no option to simply disable the overlays. The only option is to use a different theme. You can download one from www.gnomelook.org but check its screenshots first to make sure it doesn't have those glassy overlays. The theme will come in a .zip or .tar.bz2 which you must extract to the ".themes" directory in your Home folder. (If there's no such directory, make one. The period before the name tells Ubuntu that it is a hidden folder.)
Now go to the Software Center and install "Unity Tweak Tool" and simply chose your new theme.
Hope this helps! :)

Thanks man, Unity Tweak Tool did just the trick. I did also go in and modify the .svg files int he shared directory, so this should be all resolved now.

Thanks again.

I would love some feedback on the icon. Different colors or alphabets? I am open to do any changes.
Cheers!

I love it! I think the font you used is spot-on. I will try these out post-haste.

It all depends on what your goals for the project are, of course, but the color of the darktable icon doesn't match the the the Lightroom icon's undersaturated blue. It does make for a nice contrast with your other two, though.

I tried to give a somewhat similar color as Lightroom to the Darktable icon, however, I'll probably change the color altogether. My aim is to make the icons distinct and Adobe does quite the opposite. They use different shades of blue for Photoshop and Lightroom; and again a relatively similar purple for Premiere.

I tried to follow Adobe's color choices initially, but now I might go for some different ones, atleast for a few apps, so as to make my icons distinct and un-repetitive.
